West Darfur StateIt is one of the states of Sudan. It is located in the far west of Sudan, between longitudes 11-15 degrees east and latitudes 22-25 degrees north. It is bordered to the west and northwest by the Republic of Chad, to the southwest by the Central African Republic, to the east by the state of North Darfur, and to the southeast by the state of South Darfur. The state's area is about 79,460 km².

The state is characterized by sandy lands in its north, while the southern, eastern, and central parts are muddy and mountainous lands. As for the general shape of the state’s geography, it is formed by a group of mountains, sand hills, and agricultural lands, and it is spread through valleys, such as Wadi Kaja, Zoum, Bari, and Tulu, and it falls within the scope of the rich savannah, which is distinguished by its good vegetation for grazing. One of the most famous natural phenomena is Jebel Marra, which is considered one of the most fertile areas in Sudan, and is dominated by dense vegetation and forests rich in cypress, cambel, and mohawk trees.

The state's climate ranges from semi-desert in the far north, then poor savannah in the middle, to rich savanna in the southern parts. The highlands of the Marra Mountains are characterized by a Mediterranean climate. Winds are northeasterly most days of the year and are fairly dry. Rainfall ranges from 180 mm in the far north to 800 mm in the far south, and precipitation begins in May until October. The state is characterized by a cold and long winter from October to February and a mild summer from March to May, with temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius.

يبلغ عدد سكان الولاية حسب تعداد 1993 حوالي 1.329.,832 نسمة.من النمط السائد يتبين أن 90% من اجمالي سكان الولاية يقطنون الحضر ويتركزون بصورة أساسية في الجنينة وزالنجي، وتأتي الولاية في المرتبة الثامنة من حيث عدد السكان في السودان.
